Our very own Al has been asked to join the board of Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS), one of seven new board members appointed. CDS is a subsidiary of Scottish Enterprise and has a remit to 'promote and facilitate the development of co-operative enterprises’ throughout Scotland. The new line-up is strongly industry-focused and includes representatives from well-established co-owned businesses like Edinburgh Bicycle Coop, Loch Fyne Oysters and Tullis Russell Group as well as newer ones like Atomised.
Ivan Broussine, CDS Advisory Board Chair, said: "With changing economic times strengthening the case for more sustainable ways of doing business, the opportunity for co-operative and employee owned business models has never been greater. It is tremendously exciting to have such a high calibre Advisory Board helping us promote this message."
Sarah Deas, CDS Chief Executive, hopes the strengthened Advisory Board will help to promote the success of co-operative and employee owned business models across Scotland.
She said: "We are delighted that individuals with such experience of the key business models we are promoting have agreed to join us in an advisory and advocacy capacity.
"Collaboration boosts productivity, spreads the risk and grows more sustainable businesses. Having so much hands-on experience of these benefits on our Advisory Board can only be beneficial."
Al says: "Atomised benefited greatly from CDS help when incorporating in 2008 and I'm delighted to be able to get a chance to put something back into the Co-operative sector. I'm especially looking forward to being able to really sell the benefits of the employee-owned model to start-ups drawn from our own experience and rapid growth in the past year."
